| All of my life, I have tried to be all I could possibly be for myself, but more for my family. Mainly to prove a point to society and those who ever doubted my succession: I will become something great in life no matter what comes my way!
The career that I have chosen to pursue is pharmacy. This field of work is full of many complexities and that is why I chose it because I needed a challenge, and I have a new found passion for chemistry. I also picked this career because there are not many African-Americans who are pharmacists or work in the field of medicine and I want to show how diverse African-Americans really are.
Becoming a successful African-American will enable me to contribute back to the community in many different ways. I, one day hope to start an organization for young African-American males to teach them the skills they need to become the successful, and proud individuals society needs them to be. This scholarship will help me reach my goals and I know I can make a change and difference in the world and lives of those in need.

As an eighteen year old senior getting ready to embark on a new adventure in life, I believe that the Rochester A.B.O.V.E. scholarship will be a great help and major push to help start making my dreams come true. The one thing I admire about the scholarship is that it awards our youth for doing unselfish deeds, portraying acts of kindness, and setting an example in the process.
Through many of the volunteer experiences I have encountered during my senior year, each one was rewarding and enjoyable. I had the pleasure of being a part of a class in my high school at Gates Chili known as Peer Leadership.
Ever since ninth grade, I have found a career that I was passionate about; that career is journalism. In the career of journalism you do a service for the people and for your community. Journalism is a career choice for me because it's not just a job to make money, but more importantly, I have the opportunity to make a difference. I hope to do so by bringing abuot awareness, educating others of current events as well as being the voice for those who normally wouldn't be heard.

| I'm interested in becoming an Administrative Support Manager. This field interests me because it is a position of power and it enables me to be able to showcase leadership skills as well as manegerial skills.
One of the most influential people I've came across to persuade me into considering this field is a man named Malik Evans. While in the program called Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, he told me of the benefits of this career such as it gets you a step closer to possibly becoming a V.P.
I currently own a business called "Juniors For Seniors". As founder and C.E.O., I have to exercise managerial skills by insuring everything is running smoothly.
Receiving the scholarship will lift the burden of cost, leabing only myself as a potential blockade in my path to success. My future is now!

Overtime, I can honestly say that there have been moments that held a significant impact on my life. As my senior year begins to reach a climax, it becomes more and more apparent that the choices made now have the potential to steer my life in one of two directions; success or failure. I choose success. Therefore, on this tough but rewarding journey I have decided to focus upon becoming a physical therapist.
As a passionate hard-working athlete, there could not be a more fitting career choice than entering the exercise science field. During high school, I have always found myself drawn to athletics; whether it was basketball, cheerleading, and even track.
While studying within the exercise science program, I plan to go into the graduate program and receive a master's in exercise science. Although I am sure that I would like to pursue this degree, I am still not crystal clear on whether I will practice physical therapy or athletic training. Nevertheless, with hard work, determination and perseverance I know that this will become a reality.

It is my goal to began at a two-year community college where I will focus on liberal arts, then transfer to a four-year college to major in Theatre and minor in Entertainment Law.
I am phenomenal at what I do throughout the community. Community service was a serious focus during my high school career, and I made a commitment to finish what I started; but to keep the unity in my community alive.
I feel honored to be a recipient for the 2009 scholarship. It means so much to know that several of organizations care about the youth. This is also an opportunity to express my gratitude to you.

| I am a proud senior at the School of the Arts where I will be graduating as a creative writing major with a love for poetry. I will be attending Genesee Community College in the fall and plan to focus on the study of Human Services, where I can express my passion for working with children. Attending Hillside Work Scholarship really motivated my decision.
I am the oldest of three sisters and no brothers, so fulfilling the role of a strong, black woman is a must. The biggest role model of my life is my grandma. She has been my light whenever it has been dark.
I am honored to have been chosen for the Rochester A.B.O.V.E. Scholarship. This is a true blessing I have encountered into my college career. I plan on using this blessing to my benefit…so thank you Rochester A.B.O.V.E. for your key to opening one of the many doors of success!
